Hunting Instructions

Hunters may purchase permits for the above dates on a "first-come, first-served" basis. Permits MUST be purchased by WEDNESDAY at 5 p.m. BEFORE the weekend that you plan to hunt. Call the office (806.775.2602) to make an appointment to purchase the Permit.

In order to obtain a permit and reserve space, hunters must bring the following items:

• their driver’s license to indicate residency,
• 2011-2012 hunting license complete with stamps (migratory game bird stamp is required to hunt mourning dove, and an upland game bird stamp is required to hunt quail and turkey),
• and cash, check or credit card (MasterCard or Visa).

Hunters registering by fax must fax copies of their Driver's License and Hunting License with their application. There will be no refund for permits not subsequently used, and no date substitution due to adverse weather conditions.

Dove and quail bag and possession limits will conform to those established by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for Kent and Garza County. Absolutely NO baiting will be allowed before or during dove hunts. NO BATTERY POWERED FEEDERS OR ROAD BAITING ALLOWED during dove, quail or turkey hunts. Bird dogs are strongly recommended for quail hunts.

Deer hunters may be included in a RANDOM DRAWING for the available hunts as shown above. An archery stamp on your Hunting License is required. Hunting parties must sign up together; specify deer hunt of your selection-one entry per person or hunting party ONLY, per hunt.

Drawing for the archery hunts will take place on September 12th; winners will be notified by phone or email. Archery permits must be purchased by September 22nd to reserve your space. Cancellations after September 30th will result in loss of any paid fees. Archery hunters who have purchased an antlerless only archery permit (Oct. 28-30) may harvest no more than two (2) white tail antlerless, plus one either-sex Rio Grande turkey and unlimited feral hog. Participants for this hunt must have an archery stamp and an upland game bird stamp on their hunting license.

Drawing for the rifle hunts will take place on October 17th. Rifle hunt permits must be purchased by October 28th to reserve your space. Cancellation after November 4th will result in the loss of any paid fee. White tail doe (antlerless) hunters may take no more than 2 (two) does per hunter. Rifle hunters may also take feral hog during their deer hunt, for no extra charge. There will be no refund of permits not subsequently used, and no date substitutions due to adverse weather conditions. Hunters may use their own tree stand or blind, and bring bait of their selection. Hunters must remove blinds/stands from City property immediately after their hunt is ended. NO BATTERY POWERED FEEDERS OR ROAD BAITING ALLOWED.

Spring gobbler only turkey hunts are available by RANDOM DRAWING. Hunting parties must sign up together; specify the hunt date of your choice – one entry per person or hunting party ONLY, per hunt. Drawing for the turkey hunts will take place on March 12th. Permits must be purchased by March 30th to reserve your space. Cancellation after April 6th will result in the loss of any paid fees. There will be no refund of permits not subsequently used, and no date substitutions due to adverse weather conditions. Turkey hunt parties will be assigned a specific area from which they may harvest their turkeys. An upland game bird stamp is required to hunt turkeys.
