General Information

Hunting requirements
include obtaining a State-issued Hunting License from the Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department for 2007-08 and appropriate stamps, and a City-issued Permit for a fee. Hunters
must sign a liability release and report all harvest information. Purchase of a
permit does not guarantee the harvest of game. Hunting access is allowed only on
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the hunting season. Permit fee paid by
hunter is determined by hunter residency.

The number of permits
issued is based upon annual population information. Dove, quail, and hog
permits are available on a first-come, first-served basis per day, while deer
and turkey permits are available by a random drawing of names submitted for each
hunt.

DOVE AND
QUAIL HUNTS
Hunters
may purchase permits for the above dates on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
Permits MUST be purchased by WEDNESDAY before the
weekend that you plan to hunt. Call the office (806.775.2602) to make an
appointment to purchase the Permit. Hunters must bring their driver’s
license to indicate residency, 2007-08 hunting license complete with any stamps,
and
cash, check or credit card (MasterCard or Visa) in order to obtain a permit
and reserve space.
There will be no refunds for permits
that are not subsequently used, and no date substitution due to adverse weather
conditions.
A migratory game bird stamp is required to hunt
mourning dove, and an upland game bird stamp is required to hunt quail.
Bag and possession limits
will conform to those established by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department,
for Kent and Garza County. Absolutely NO baiting will be allowed before or
during dove hunts. NO BATTERY POWERED FEEDERS ARE ALLOWED. Dogs are recommended for use during quail hunts.
DEER HUNTS - ARCHERY
Archery hunters may purchase a
permit for the archery hunt on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
Registration may be done by phone, but the permit must be purchased to reserve
space. Permits will be sold beginning September 10th,
at 1010-9th Street from 9 am – Noon and 2 pm – 4 pm. Hunters must
have their driver’s license to establish residency, 2007 hunting license
(complete with archery stamp), and cash, check or credit
card (MasterCard or Visa) in order to obtain a permit and reserve space.
Hunters may purchase a buck permit that allows for the harvest of either 1 white
tail buck OR 1 mule deer buck; and/or purchase a doe permit that allows for the
harvest of 1 whitetail doe. Hunters may also take feral hog during their deer
hunt, for no extra charge. Hunters may not remain on City property after the
harvest of their deer as allowed on their permit. There will be no refunds of
permits that are not subsequently used, and no date substitution due to adverse
weather conditions. Hunters may use their own tree stand or blind, and bring
bait of their selection. Pre-hunt scouting and blind set-up is scheduled
for Sept. 28-30, from 9 am-3 pm only. NO BATTERY POWERED FEEDERS ARE ALLOWED.
DEER HUNTS – RIFLE
Gun hunters
may be included in a random drawing for the white tail buck or doe and mule deer
rifle hunts as shown. Send a post card with your name, address, and day phone #
to Diane Selby, c/o City of Lubbock, P.O. Box 2000, Lubbock 79457, or call
806.775.2602. Hunting parties must sign up together; specify deer hunt of
your selection-one card per person or hunting party ONLY, per hunt.
Drawing for the gun hunts will take place on October 15th, and winners will be
notified by phone. Whitetail hunters drawn must purchase their permit by
October 31st and mule deer hunters must purchase their permit by
November 21st. Hunters may also take feral hog during their deer
hunt, for no extra charge. There will be no refunds of permits not subsequently
used, and no date substitution due to adverse weather conditions. Hunters may
not remain on City property after the harvest of their deer as allowed on their
permit. Whitetail doe rifle and youth hunters will be assigned a
specific area from which hunters may harvest does. Hunters may use their own tree stand or blind, and bring bait of their
selection. *City may offer fewer than 10 permits for the whitetail doe and youth
hunts, depending on the number of does harvested during the archery hunt.
Whitetail doe rifle and youth hunters will be assigned a specific area from
which hunters may harvest does. NO BATTERY POWERED FEEDERS ARE
ALLOWED. Youth doe hunts will be arranged in cooperation
with sponsoring agencies (Texas Wildlife Association, and National Rifle
Association) and the City of Lubbock and are free of charge to all participants.
SPRING TURKEY GOBBLER (Kent County)
Turkey
hunters may be included in a random drawing for turkey hunt weekends as shown.
